SUN MYUNG MOON INITIATIVE

PRESERVING HIS LEGACY OF WORDS AND DEEDS

  1. To preserve for current and future generations the authoritative books and sermons of Sun Myung Moon, as well as other records of his life on earth in the form of videos, audio recordings, images and the writings and testimonies of his followers.
  2. To secure and preserve in particular those materials that are under threat of being lost or destroyed by using the original texts, and by making these available to all Unificationists and the public, worldwide.
  3. To employ modern technologies for the ordering and dissemination of these materials, including digitizing them if necessary, and making them available through all communication channels possible, including websites, newsletters, social media and any other suitable methods.

This initiative originated with first generation Unificationists who lived contemporaneously with Sun Myung Moon. Many sat at his feet on many occasions, not only listening to his words but also seeing the spirit with which they were delivered. Many also were intimately involved in the ever-widening universe of activities he initiated, and benefitted from his wisdom and personal guidance.

These experiences represent a unique source of insight, and shed light on the man Unificationists call True Father, or simply Father Moon. His wife, Hak Ja Han, and their children, also played important roles in the Providence, and continue to do so today. However, the primary concern of this committee is to focus its efforts on preserving the legacy of Father Moon in particular.

In addition to his precious words, his legacy includes an incredible range of initiatives that can only be briefly summarized here. They include, but are not limited to, deepening our understanding of God and the course of the Divine Providence, past and present; promoting international, interreligious understanding and harmony; sponsoring hundreds of conferences on on every category of human endeavor, from science to religion, Media and economics, technology and the development of ocean enterprises, and more. He elevated the role of women in the world through the creation of the Women’s Federation For World Peace and the introduction of True Family Values education. To further the intellectual development of humanity and overcome income disparities, he founded educational institutions and established international businesses and charities. Most notable among these endeavors was the founding of the Washington Times. These and other great contributions have impacted millions of people and have become a model for virtuous work for all future generations.

A committee to advance this work has been established, composed of Unificationists—that is followers of Sun Myung Moon and his teachings. They consider it their mission to take responsibility for continuing the great work of Sun Myung Moon and advancing the Divine Providence according to the insights found in his teachings. Committee members enjoyed opportunities to learn directly from Sun Myung Moon and are committed to preserving his words as well as information about his many initiatives. The Committee is not affiliated to any Unificationist organization or faction.

In order to manage and secure donations for this initiative, a New Jersey-based tax-exempt corporation (501c3) has been established with a board chosen by The Committee. This entity is called Sun Myung Moon Initiative Inc. (SMMI). The founding board members are Brian Sabourin, PierAngelo Beltrami, Thomas Cromwell, John Hessell and David Stewart.
